6-12-15 National: When Walt Disney was 16, he forged his parents' signatures and lied about his age so he could join the Red Cross. That's how he found himself in Europe, just after World War I ended, driving ambulances. He loved it. He said it "added up to a lifetime of experience in one package." He later put it this way: "I know being on my own at an early age has made me more

Your Guide to The Rules of Race and Gender (Rachel Dolezal Edition)

Today life is complicated. If you make one wrong move on social media you'll lose your job. You may receive death threats or have a Swatting attempt made on you. An internet hate mob will form around you to publicly shame you. If you are a rational, thinking person life may seem overwhelming. Nothing makes sense. I have a guide for you. These are rules you MUST follow. Do not question them unless you want to be attacked and labelled a "dudebro" (if you're a man) or a woman suffering from internalized misogyny.  Women never lie. Asking a woman for proof of her claims (that she was harassed on the Internet or received a death threat) is harassment.  When a woman claims to be a rape victim, asking for evidence is part of rape culture and makes you an apologist for rapists on par with Holocaust deniers. When a woman commits a hate crime hoax, you cannot call her out. Even suggesting the woman was lying to create fame and fortune for herself would be…

Sex Offender Detection System Headed To Woburn Schools

Given registered sex offenders (RSO) pick up their own children, perfectly legal, there hasn't been a single reported school crime by a RSO accessing a school system, in history. A complete waste of money and resources.6-12-15 Massachusetts: The Raptor System scans government I.D.s in hopes of keeping potentially harmful individuals out of schools. This September, a security system designed to

10-30-2014 Texas: An unnerving coincidence for a Fort Worth dad who went to visit his child's school in Fort Worth. A new computerized security system alerted staff that he might be a sex offender. A promotional video from Raptor Technologies shows how it's supposed to work. Parents entering schools have their id's scanned, usually a driver's license, and a printer spits out a pass. But when

Killed By Cops? Blame The Constitution

It is a US Supreme Court precedent based upon The Constitution. If you read the case, the reason the doctrine exist is that police aren’t going to be asked to wait until they are shot or stabbed or punched or otherwise hurt—to wait until the threat materializes and causes physical harm to them. They are privileged by The Constitution to use deadly force in those situations where see a threat to them. — Judge John P. O’Donnell, Politico, June 12, 2015 Up to now, the discussion out of Ohio had been that Judge O’Donnell was one of those “academic” judges, smart but still a judge. As for his acquittal after a bench trial of Cleveland Police Officer Michael Brelo for killing Timothy Russell and Melissa Williams after leaping on the hood of their car and firing 15 rounds directly through the windshield into their bodies, the locals took issue with Judge O’Donnell’s “but for” analysis only because it had never before…

In Search Of Stolen Valor

On the twitters, my pal, Eric Mayer, showed me video after video of men and women walking about in public wearing military uniformed, pretending to be soldiers when the closest they came to being in harm’s way was a paper cut.  Unsurprisingly, real soldiers and former soldiers, of which Eric is proudly one, take umbrage at the poseurs. As can be seen in this video, it’s something that sufficiently disturbs those whose lives were at risk that they feel compelled to go out of their way to test, and to prove, that others are liars.  Stolen valor. And it’s not just guys being macho, or hoping to pick up chicks who dig a guy in uniform. Women do it too.  And it’s hard to fault people who have been willing to sacrifice their lives for being aggressively concerned that others are putting on the uniform when they haven’t.  I gave the phenomenon a name, Munchausen by uniform, as it struck me as a pretty sick way of faking one’s…

DALLAS COURT OF APPEALS ILLUSTRATES THAT A DEFENDANT MUST BE HEARD ASSERTING HIS RIGHT TO HAVE A LAWYER

The Dallas Court of Appeals in May decided an aggravated robbery appeal from a Dallas County Judicial District Court involving the use of statements that the defendant made after he was arrested and invoked his right to have an attorney. The Court also addressed the sufficiency of the evidence to support the robbery conviction.  The defendant had uphill battles. The pawn evidence and fingerprints were clearly sufficient to show his participation in the offense at the very least with others. With respect to the use of the defendant’s statement, the police confronted the defendant about his fingerprints being at the house in Dallas that was robbed. The defendant explained that his cousin had borrowed some gloves; the defendant’s fingerprints must have been transferred to the gloves and then to his cousin and then to one of the items from the house, a television that the defendant had pawned. The Court pointed out that a defendant has a right to have a lawyer…

Marty Walsh’s Fixation on Opposing Marijuana Legalization: Wrong-Headed on Every Level - Part Two of Two

In Part One of this post, I discussed Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s fool-headed decision – both politically and scientifically – to be willing to “lead the charge” against an anticipated 2016 Massachusetts ballot initiative to legalize marijuana possession and use. As a Wrentham Massachusetts drug charges attorney, I can assure you that alcohol – which is fully legal, regulated, and taxed – is at least ten times more addictive and dangerous than cannabis. Yet alcohol remains legal, while cannabis remains illegal. This insane legal and social policy has persisted for decades, and must end soon. Because cannabis remains illegal (especially on the federal level,) cartels and illegal dealers control its distribution. Legalization it will smash cartel control, will allow for orderly regulation of it. As respected national organizations such as the Marijuana Policy Project have made clear, current sales in the illegal market…

Well being boils down to daily practice. That is all.

By Fairfax/Northern Virginia Criminal Defense/DWI lawyer Jon Katz. Pursuing the best outcome for felonies, misdemeanors, drugs, marijuana, sex crimes, prostitution, weapons, assault, and all other alleged crimes.     Self help books line Barnes & Noble shelves wall to wall. The temptation to read self-help books, attend self-help conferences and watch self-help videos must not interfere with putting the self help into practice. With that, the core of my self help includes applying daily mindfulness and taijiquan practice, applying non-duality, and recognizing the three marks of existence of impermanence, unsatisfactoriness, and non-self, as further detailed by my teacher Thubten Chodron.     On the three marks of existence, we know that everything is impermanent. To fight that brings disappointment with life. We all know that we will face unsatisfactory situations to say the least.     Perhaps more…
