Tips for Safe Driving for Seniors

In densely populated states such as Pennsylvania and New Jersey, driving safety for all groups is an important issue that every resident should be concerned with. Moreover, with the Department of Transportation’s estimate of a 77 percent increase of drivers over 65 by 2045, we need to make safe driving for seniors a top priority.Though many of Pennsylvania and New Jersey’s senior drivers still function well on their own, many others often have decreased cognitive abilities and need assistance operating a motor vehicle.  What are unique risks that seniors face in the event of an accident?Senior drivers face unique risks such as diminished capacities of eyesight, hearing, reaction time, and even attention span. It is because of these diminished functions that senior drivers must be extra careful while operating a motor vehicle, and should also be aware of the physical challenges that make seniors more susceptible to accident-related injuries. What physical…

10 Things Every Arizona Driver Needs to Know

0

It’s happened to almost everyone. You see the flashing lights in your rearview mirror and start to panic. You’re being stopped by an Arizona police officer. As an Arizona driver do you know your rights when this happens?   Here are 10 things to do and know if you are pulled over in Arizona:   Reasonable suspicion is enough to pull you over. If a police officer suspects you have committed a criminal offense, he or she has the right to stop you. Remain calm, and stop your vehicle as soon as safely possible. Be pleasant and professional. Passengers should also remain polite and keep their hands in view. Do not try to talk your way out of a situation. Think of it this way – anything you do or say could end up on a police report. If you are carrying a firearm, Arizona law does not require you to disclose this at a traffic stop unless you are asked. Make sure you know local laws whenever you travel with a firearm. You do not have to take field sobriety…

On April 15, 2016, a podiatrist Dr. Neil Van Dyck of Roseville, California was sentenced by United States District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine for committing healthcare fraud. This sentence came after a guilty plea on October 23, 2015.  According to the plea agreement and court documents, Dr. Van Dyck was a California-licensed podiatrist who operated a podiatry practice in Roseville called Placer Podiatry. The issue in Dr. Van Dyck's case was whether the “spa”-like or routine foot care treatments were properly billed to Medicare, Medi-Cal, Tricare and other private insurers.  The government and insurers alleged that Dr. Van Dyck falsely claimed that he performed more expensive procedures than he actually performed, or that the routine foot care that was provided was justified because of illness or symptoms that were not present. it was alleged that often the treatments were performed by unlicensed…

San Bernardino sees Uptick in Homicides:  San Bernardino, Calif., has had seven homicides in nine days, a pattern police Chief Jarrod Burguan says is "more than numbers."  Doug Saunders of the San Bernardino County Sun reports that the city has logged 24 homicides so far this year, all of which have either been drug- or gang-related.  Last year, there was only a total of 44 homicides for the entire year, including the 14 who were killed in the terrorist shooting at the Inland Regional Center on Dec. 2.  San Bernardino police officials believe the "underlying causes trace to the passage" of AB 109 and Proposition 47.  AB 109 was implemented in 2011 by Gov. Jerry Brown in an effort to reduce prison overcrowding by diverting several inmates from state prisons to county jails, resulting in early releases.  Prop. 47, passed by voters in 2014, lessened the sentences of several felony property and drug offenses.Obama admin Fails to…
