Paul Antonio Johnson of Palm Springs, Florida was arrested Thursday after he was accused of beating and strangling his wife following a domestic dispute, news sources report. The victim sustained bruising during the alleged attack. Johnson, 26, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of battery. His bail was set at $15,000. It is not yet known whether Johnson has retained an attorney. According to reports, the victim had been actively keeping away from Johnson for several days leading up to the assault. It is not clear why the victim was avoiding Johnson; reports did not specifically mention previous attacks or threats. It is not clear whether the wife has filed a restraining order against Johnson in light of the alleged attack. On March 18, Johnson spotted the victim somewhere along the 3700 block of Kirk Road in Palm Springs, sources say. Johnson reportedly confronted the woman and pushed her into a portable toilet stall located along the road. Johnson then allegedly struck the victim and asked where she had been for the last day. The victim shielded her face and Johnson purportedly struck her in the abdomen. In an effort to avoid the attack, the victim climbed up onto the toilet, reports say. However, Johnson allegedly grabbed hair and yanked her to the floor of the port-o-potty. Johnson proceeded to kick at the victim as she lay on the ground, reports say. After kicking the victim, Johnson allegedly fastened his belt around her neck and began to tighten it. The victim said she nearly lost consciousness during the alleged strangulation and was afraid for her life. She was eventually able to break free from the port-o-potty and scream for help; reports say she ran to a nearby friend's home and called police. The victim later went to the JFK Medical Center for treatment on contusions sustained in the assault, sources say. In other news, Augustine Burton of St. Petersburg was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly sold drugs while in the company of an 8-year-old girl, reports say. The child was not harmed in the alleged incident. Burton, 51, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of child abuse, possession of heroin and cocaine with the intent to sell, and obstruction of justice. She was later released on an unspecified bail bond. It is not yet known whether Burton has hired legal representation.
