Ruben Yepes Quiroz of Miami, Florida of Miami, Florida was arrested Saturday for allegedly using fake police lights to pull a vehicle over, news sources report. Quiroz, 31, was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on charges of prohibited use of police lights and falsely impersonating an officer. His bail bond was set at $6,000. It is not yet known whether Quiroz has hired a criminal defense lawyer. According to reports, Quiroz works as a bouncer at Kopas Restaurant on Southwest 8th Street. Quiroz also reportedly works for the Telemundo TV station, which is owned by NBC Universal. It was not immediately clear what position Quiroz held with the TV station. It is also not clear how this arrest will affect Quiroz's employment. The incident occurred early Saturday morning after Rodrigo Prado, the victim, and two of his friends were kicked out of Kopas Restaurant for unspecified reasons. Prado left the club in his Pontiac Vibe and was on Southwest 60th Avenue and 8th Street when he noticed police lights in his rearview mirror. "The police lights, they were big," Prado said. "You see them, you say 'that's a police officer.'" The lights were coming from Quiroz's yellow Scion TC, reports say. Prado pulled over and Quiroz pulled up behind him, as is custom with any traffic stop. However, Quiroz was likely unaware that another officer near the scene planned to assist in the traffic stop. Reports say an actual cop car pulled up on the scene behind Quiroz. "We thought [Quiroz] was a detective," the assisting officer said. "Out of nowhere we find out he was a fraud." Quiroz explained that he had pulled Prado over because the suspect was involved in an incident at Kopas Restaurant and because Prado's license plate was covered. The officers inspected Prado's plate and found it was in fact covered. Reports say the officers then turn the tables, arresting Quiroz and questioning him. "[Quiroz] said he was a retired police officer, and then he changed his version and said he was a police explorer," an officer reportedly said in his reports. According to reports, officers later learned that Quiroz worked for Kopas Restaurant, which they confirmed by calling the restaurant. The officers also learned that Quiroz also works at Telemundo. Sources say Quiroz told officers that he had gotten the "fake" police lights from the TV station and that he typically used them while filming movies.
