A Course in Miracles - People Are Thoughts

Enjoy this excerpt from a transcribed talk from the awakened joyful mind of David Hoffmeister, a profound and uncompromising A Course in Miracles teachehttp://chefsolberg.blogspot.com/2017/08/a-course-in-miracles-people-are-thoughts.One of the things I opened up with today is the nondual idea from A Course in Miracles, that people aren't really people, they're just thoughts. If you think about all the struggle and pain and misery in human relationships it's because of the belief that you're a person and that there are other people and they don't go together very well on this planet, or any planet for that matter, any reality, even in science fiction! The Klingons never get on with the Romulans and they never get along with the Borg, you know, even when we're off into Star Trek, in other realms, the beings are not getting along. Even George Lucas; Star Wars, it wasn't star harmony it was Star Wars and the 'dark…

Short Take: It’s Not Easy Being Right

Tina Fey was beloved for her comedic ridicule of the right until she wasn’t. Over a sheet cake and not wanting to violently attack people when the mob demanded violence. Oh, to be adored on the pedestal of social justice one minute and a she-devil the next. So exhausting. But if you think that’s exhausting, it’s nothing compared to the heavy lifting demanded of the New York Times editorial board, faced with the impossible task of explaining away the “armed militias” of the right. Perhaps the most amazing aspect of what happened in Charlottesville was that no one fired a bullet. But no one did. Even before violence erupted in Charlottesville, Va., last weekend, city residents and the police anxiously watched the arrival of self-styled militias — swaggering gangs of armed civilians in combat fatigues — standing guard over the protest by white supremacists and other racist agitators against the removal of a Confederate statue. Armed…

The 100 Thousandth Comment

About ten days ago, SJ hit a landmark, the 100,000 thousandth comment by the commenter who had gone by the handle “El Professor Presente” until he got tired of typing all those letters shortened it to the erudite “el pee pee” (let that be a lesson). And as promised, a copy of Nathan Burney’s Illustrated Guide to Criminal Law went out in the post. I asked only one thing in return, that EPP send back a pic of him upon receipt, because (you know) without pics, it didn’t happen. It happened. He’s cuter than I imagined. While group strip searches at a jail are invasive, there is a penological justification offered that plaintiff doesn’t answer. There is no clearly established law that these are unreasonable. “The issue we face is whether periodically conducting group strip searches … Continue reading →

And other sayings from our President. "Stare at the eclipse. Only Obama-care doctors say you can't watch the eclipse. People have been watching eclipses since they were walking with dinosaurs and you never hear any of them went blind. So stare at the eclipse and enjoy.""Nazis are people too. Americans." "We spend all this money on nuclear weapons and don't use them. What good are they? Harry Truman used nuclear weapons. Great American Republican President. He had the right idea.""Robert E. Lee was a Republican. So was Stonewall Jackson. That's why the Obama crowd wants to take down their statutes.""Lincoln didn't believe in global warming. Neither did Patton. Neither do I.""Exercise is bad for you." Site Feed

You may always decline being sprayed in court with proverbial prune juice and diarrhea

Each day in court is filled with experiences from fragrant flowers to fetid feces. You may always decline being sprayed with proverbial prune juice and diarrhea. Some people absolutely adore prunes, whether dried, stewed, or as juice. (Prunes revolt me. I am so prejudiced against them that I have not touched them for over four decades). When they offer you a dish of prunes, they may believe they are offering a gift of ambrosia. Others might offer prunes with the same spirit that my friend’s “friend” gave him a gift of Depends diapers at his fortieth birthday celebration– as a ribbing about what might befall any of us when octogenarians or nonogenarians, including that very Depends gift giver. Nobody has to accept the would-be gift nor anti-gift. The courthouse and courtrooms are at once filled with specks of gold and shitstorms that can erupt at any moment even when least expected. I enter the courthouses and courtrooms attired with proverbial rubber…

How to avoid injury from the insults and firebombs in court and beyond

How does one avoid injury from the insults and firebombs in court and beyond? The story goes that one day a small bird tried landing on the palm of a t’ai chi ch’uan master. However, the t’ai chi master made his hand go so soft and ever-changing with the bird’s movements that the bird had nowhere to grasp hold of, so flew away. That is a great metaphor for never letting the bows and arrows of others bother nor harm us as we proceed forward to victory in court and in life. As a follow-up to yesterday’s  blogposting on declining being sprayed with prune juice and diarrhea in court and beyond, here are some other great lessons in that same vein, many overlapping and all rooted in non-duality: – “There is no out there for the mind.” – Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len – “If somebody is a problem for you, it’s not that they should change, it’s that you need to change. If they’re a problem for…

The Court Of No Consent

Say a husband and wife want to engage in conjugal relations. They’re both into it. They’re married. What’s the problem? The well-intended protectors of the faith say “nope, no can do,” and warn the wife that if she has sex with her husband, she’ll be in big trouble. The couple, who married in 2010, were ordered to abstain from sex until the man had completed a sex education course. His wife moved into a spare bedroom after being told she would be committing a serious criminal offence if she had sex with her husband. She also “significantly reduced any physical expressions of affection” so she would not “lead him on,” the Court of Protection heard. Phew. Crisis averted, all because of the timely intervention of the Court of Protection. No, this is not a made up court, but one that was established in the United Kingdom to save people whom the government deemed unworthy of their own agency from themselves.…
